Hasselt: Tom Waes’ damaged Porsche to be auctioned this month

After the accident in November 2024, a friend of Tom Waes bought the damaged Porsche. He asked auctioneer Peter Reekmans to help with the sale. Reekmans was excited because only 2,500 of this model were made, making it special for collectors. He mentioned that the story of the accident adds more value to the car. 

According to the Reekmans, it is not just a rare classic but also something people want to talk about. Because of this, the auction is expected to attract attention from car fans and those interested in the celebrity side of the story.

Will Tom Waes’ damaged Porsche 911 fetch a high bid?

Auctioneer Peter Reekmans is getting many calls from people who want to buy it. One person even offered €30,000, but Reekmans could not take the offer. He wants to hold a proper auction for the car. 

He mentioned that the car is rare, and its story makes it more appealing to collectors. Even though it is damaged, the engine and other parts are still good. Collectors like it because it is linked to a famous TV star.

According to Reekmans, collectors are the main group interested in the car. They like it not just for its parts but also for its unique story. Some want to use the engine or wheels, while others see it as an important piece of car history linked to Tom Waes. He mentioned that the Porsche belonged to a public figure and was part of a big event makes it special for fans. 

“The engine, the gearbox and the suspension are still intact, so there will certainly be people who still want to use the engine or the wheels.”

Reekmans says

According to Auctioneer Peter Reekmans, the money from the sale of Tom Waes’ damaged Porsche 911 G-model will go to charity. They plan to donate 16% of the total amount. The charity is not decided yet. 

Reekmans will talk to Tom Waes to choose a good organization. He mentioned that one idea is the Young Responsible Drivers program. This program helps people who have been drinking get home safely. It aims to stop drunk driving and keep roads safer.

“We want to donate the proceeds to charity,” Reekmans continues.

According to Officials, Tom Waes and the auction house want to help others. They plan to support the Young Responsible Drivers program to improve road safety. Waes and Reekmans will choose the charity together. They want to make sure the donation goes to a good cause that helps the community.

“That will be decided in consultation with Tom Waes, but I am thinking of the Young Responsible Drivers, for example. You can call them to drive if you have had too much to drink. So I think that is a nice charity, but that has yet to be decided.”

Reekmans says

In November 2024, Tom Waes, a popular TV presenter and actor from Belgium, was in a serious car accident. He was driving his old Porsche 911 on the Antwerp ring road, close to the Kennedy Tunnel. He crashed into a crash absorber and suffered severe injuries. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. 

Officials mentioned that this accident received a lot of attention because Tom Waes is a well-known figure in Belgium. He is now recovering, but details about his health are not clear. The Porsche was damaged in the crash.
