Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Hasselt’s electric bike group purchases take place from October 10 to December 7, offering 5-50% discounts. Ten dealers participate, with Steven Roggen noting lower interest compared to previous years.

From October 10 to December 7, the city of Hasselt is holding a group purchase program for electric bicycles, allowing residents to buy them at discounted prices. To help people choose the right bike, there will be a test ride day where residents can try different models. Ten bike dealers in Hasselt and De Fietsboetiek in Kortessem will participate, offering various bikes and sharing information about their features and pricing. This initiative aims to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce carbon emissions in the community.

How can Hasselt residents benefit from the electric bike group purchase program?

Residents can choose from various electric bikes, including city bikes, longtails, folding bikes, and cargo bikes, with a 5 to 25 percent discount. One cargo bike is available at a 50 percent discount. Steven Roggen from Biking Fietsshop in Hasselt said that the electric city bike, which costs 3,699 euros, will be available for 3,033 euros through the group purchase, saving buyers almost 700 euros.

Hasselt has held group purchases for electric bikes in the past. In 2019, around 500 people saved 230,000 euros. This year, interest is lower. Steven Roggen from Biking Fietsshop said that many bought bikes during the pandemic, and the current economy is affecting sales. He also mentioned that this year’s group purchase is less organized than five years ago, when people had to book test rides, while now anyone can just come in.
