How did Frank Van Nerom overcome challenges for Halle Schaatst?
According to Frank Van Nerom from Halle Events, this year’s Halle Schaatst wasn’t easy to organise. He explained that the ongoing construction on the Stationsplein caused major challenges. The city initially rejected the event because they were worried about the square’s condition, but the organisers were determined to make it work. “We kept pushing and are very happy,” Van Nerom said, reflecting on their efforts. In the end, the event became a highlight of the holiday season for many visitors.
“This year’s Halle Schaatst went well, but there’s no guarantee for future events.” Frank Van Nerom said they have an agreement with the old city council to organise it again next year, but that depends on having enough volunteers. Mayor Eva Demesmaeker hopes it continues, mentioning that the organisation is strong and the city offers some financial support, which makes her confident that Halle Events can run the event again.
