Ghent (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Ghent’s August roadworks disrupt trams T1, T2, T4 and buses 5, 6, 16, 33, 55, 56, 70–78; De Lijn adds detours, signs, and buses during works (Aug 11–24).
As VRT News reported, public transport in Ghent will be disrupted in August 2025 because of several roadworks and repairs across the city. One of the main projects is finishing the tram track on Begijnhoflaan. Because of this, tram line T4 will not run between Gent-Sint-Pietersstation and Lange Steenstraat while the work is being done.
Because of the rehab work on Burgstraat, tram line T2 will change its routing while going through Muide. All the rerouting of the lines means passengers will have to find a new route or take replacement buses if the area has a stop that is no longer being provided.
What August roadworks mean for trams and buses in Ghent?
According to officials, more delays are expected near Sint-Pieters station. Workers will replace the concrete on platform T1, and trams cannot use that part for almost 2 weeks. Therefore, tram line T1 will not travel to Flanders Expo from August 11 to August 24, 2025. Transport organisation De Lijn will display boards, inform travellers about the diversion, and may possibly use extra buses to assist travellers in the area during the construction period.
The city is laying new asphalt on Zuidstationstraat and Tweebruggenstraat, streets that many buses normally use. Because of this, buses on lines 5, 6, 16, 33, and 70 to 78 will take a different route for now. Some stops might not be used, and buses could take more time to get where they are going.
Work on Wiedauwkaai is also causing problems for buses in Ghent. Buses on lines 55 and 56 are being sent on a new route through Wondelgem and Rabot. De Lijn is telling passengers to check their journey ahead of time with the route planner or the De Lijn app for updates on stops and delays.
