Ghent Festivities: A Vibrant street art celebration in Belgium

Ghent(The Brussels Morning Newspaper):The Ghent Festivities transform the city center into a vibrant stage with 112 street artists performing music, circus acts and more. Crowds gather to enjoy the lively atmosphere creating a festive spirit throughout the event.

During the Ghent Festivities the city center becomes like a big stage with lots of street performances. people can see street artists all around like musicians playing beautiful music, circus performers doing amazing tricks and bands playing lively music that fills the air.Ā  These artists perform all over the city, using any open space to entertain people. People mentioned that the different performances make the atmosphere special with visitors surrounded by changing sights and sounds. These street are so liked that big crowds gather to watch sometimes causing traffic jams as people pause to enjoy the performances.

How does the Ghent Festivities permit system support street artists?

Ninety-six artists got permission to perform at the Ghent Festivities by applying for permits before the end of May. The city also gave out 20 extra permits in mid-June for artists who decided to join later. On top of that Ghent gave permits to 16 more artists making sure thereā€™s a mix of different performances at the festival. This system not only organizes the shows but also brings a lot of different art forms making the festival more exciting for everyone involved.

In total 112 artists got permits to perform at the Ghent Festivities. Solo artists or groups of up to five pay 69 euros for a permit while larger groups pay 136 euros. The city expects to make around 10,000 euros from these fees. After their shows artists usually ask for donations from the audience. The money they collect goes straight to the artists giving them extra income for their hard work. This way artists can earn money from their performances and add to the festivalā€™s lively vibe.

What is the atmosphere like at the Ghent Festivities with street performers entertaining crowds throughout the city center?

Aisha De Smedt and Madeline Roose have a band where they play cover songs. They feel thrilled because many people pass by. This is their first time performing here. They hope people will stop and sing along. When they start playing ā€˜Africaā€™ by Toto people join in easily. In another spot two percussionists are playing energetically keeping a good distance to avoid a noisy mix. Eventually they let others have a turn. Throughout the city groups of people gather around different street artists.

It has been said that people at the Ghent Festivities are having a great time watching lots of performances while walking around the city center. The streets are busy with everyone moving from one cool act to another, enjoying the variety of entertainment from street artists. As the night goes on the vibe stays lively and friendly. Many guests feel these early shows are just the start before the big events later in the evening. Excitement grows as the city gets ready for more amazing and thrilling performances, setting the stage for an unforgettable night.
