Paris (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – France has reiterated its stance about the future of Gaza, affirming that Gaza should be one of the places in the new Palestinian state, not be made a dependency under another nation’s control, dismissing a disputed plan by the United States.

French foreign ministry spokesman Christophe Lemoine, in a statement, had said,

“France once again opposes any forced displacement of the Palestinian population of Gaza, which would represent a serious breach of international law, an attack against the proper aspirations of the Palestinians, but also a major obstacle to the two-state solution and a major destabilising factor for our close partners Egypt and Jordan as well as for the entire region.”

Lemoine further added,

“The future of Gaza must be inscribed not in the perspective of control by a third State but in the framework of a future Palestinian State, under the aegis of the Palestinian Authority.”

France also reaffirmed its resistance to any growth of Israeli settlements, saying that it is “contrary to international law” and criticising “any unilateral annexation attempt in the West Bank.”

What does Trump propose for the future of Gaza?

A day earlier, President Donald Trump made a shocking proposal that the United States was going to “take over” the Gaza Strip and expel its Palestinian population permanently.

He announced this proposal during a news conference after having met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump asserted his intention to take control over Gaza, asserting that the U.S. would effectively administer the territory and turn it into what he termed “the Riviera of the Middle East.” These announcements emphasised economic growth, job opportunities, and infrastructure reconstruction in the region.

The proposal included relocating the entire Palestinian population of Gaza to neighbouring countries such as Egypt and Jordan. Trump suggested that many nations would be willing to assist in this resettlement process, framing it as a humanitarian necessity due to the dire conditions in Gaza.
