Wallonia (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – In Wallonia, 13 rivers are under high flood alert due to rising water levels, prompting emergency monitoring and precautions. Four additional rivers are in pre-alert status. Meanwhile, Flanders reports no significant flooding, with the Dender River’s levels remaining below warning thresholds.

According to the official hydrometric portal of the Walloon Region, 3 rivers and their smaller streams in Wallonia are now in the flood alert phase. According to authorities, the water levels in these rivers have increased from safe limits, which could lead to flooding in nearby areas. The alert phase is the highest warning level, and it starts emergency actions.

They mentioned that these actions include closer monitoring of the rivers, informing residents about the situation, and getting resources ready to help with possible flooding. The report does not mention the specific rivers.

What is the current flood risk status for rivers in Wallonia and Flanders?

In addition to the rivers in the flood alert phase, 4 other watercourses in Wallonia are in the pre-alert phase. Authorities mentioned that this phase is not as serious, but it means that water levels are rising a lot. If the situation gets worse, these levels could reach the alert stage.

The affected watercourses include the Dijle, the Haute Sambre, and the Eau d’Heure with their smaller streams. These rivers are being watched closely because rising water could cause flooding in some areas. Authorities are checking the situation often to provide updates and take steps to prevent problems.

The Flemish Environment Agency (VMM) reports that there is no serious flooding in Flanders at this time. Even though it has been raining a lot, some areas have higher water levels. The Dender River has seen its water levels rise more than expected because of the ongoing rain. However, the situation is still under control.

According to the Flemish Environment Agency, the water level is 60 cm below the warning level. There is no major risk of flooding across the region. Local measures have been taken to address smaller issues that have come up. Authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation to ensure safety.

In some places along the Dender River, precautionary closures have been implemented because of water overflow. In Aspelare, Plekkersstraat and the path near the athletics track have been closed for now due to flooding. This limits access to those areas.

The Oude Kaaibrug has been raised to prevent further damage and will stay in that position until the water levels go down. In Affligem, a street has also been closed because of flooding. Authorities mentioned that this shows the need for people to be careful in low-lying areas.

City officials and emergency services are watching the situation along the Dender River closely. They are checking water levels and weather conditions often. They highlight that this helps them act quickly if things get worse.

Officials mentioned that the water levels are rising but are not at dangerous levels yet. Some streets and paths are closed as a precaution. The Oude Kaaibrug has been raised to prevent more issues. These actions aim to keep everyone safe during the heavy rain.
According to the city officials, residents should stay updated by checking the Ninove website and the city’s social media. These platforms share information about road closures and water levels. The city asks people in affected areas to be careful and avoid places that might flood.
