The incident happened on 30th August around 6:30pm at Monnoyerkaai, right in front of the port of Brussels. A crew member of a boat was trying to tie it more securely to the dock when the accident occurred.

The incident involved a sixty-year-old man who was hit by a crane used for loading and unloading. Early reports say that the crane struck him, making him lose consciousness and fall into the canal. Even though emergency services were called right away. All rescue efforts failed, and the man did not survive.
