European Union calls for stability after Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment

Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – EU calls for swift resolution of South Korea’s political crisis after National Assembly impeaches President Yoon Suk Yeol over martial law proposal.

European Union’s Foreign Affairs and Security Policy spokesperson has released a statement on the latest developments in South Korea,

“The EU takes note of the decision by the National Assembly to impeach President Yoon Seok Yul. It is necessary now to ensure a swift and orderly resolution of the current political crisis in line with the Korean Constitution. The Republic of Korea is an essential strategic partner for the EU.”

Today on 14 Dec 2024, South Korea’s National Assembly constituents have voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his endeavour to inflict martial law. The National Assembly green light the move by 204 to 85 votes.

Over his impeachment South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol stated he would “step aside” after parliament voted to oust him from post, demanding an end to “politics of excess and confrontation”. “Though I must now step aside for a while, the expedition toward the future… must never come to a stop,” he stated in a televised speech.
