European summit in Brussels: perimeter and traffic disruption

A European summit will take place on Thursday and Friday in the buildings of the Council of the European Union in Wetstraat. The police therefore set up a security perimeter for two days and warn of traffic disruption.

The Reyers tunnel towards the center will be closed from Thursday, October 26 at 11 am. The perimeter in the Schuman district starts an hour later and includes Place Schuman, Froissartstraat between numbers 101 and 143 as well as Wetstraat, between Place Schuman and the RĂ©sidence Palace. In addition, a number of surrounding streets are reserved for local traffic. Parking is also prohibited in these streets.

No traffic is allowed within the perimeter, except for emergency and emergency services and authorized vehicles. Residents living within the zone must present a ticket of passage and their ID to access the perimeter. For safety reasons, no garbage bags, bicycles or terraces may be placed on public roads and all windows must be closed.

Traffic disruption


The police warn of the expected traffic disruption and recommend using public transport in Brussels as much as possible.

Although public transport will also be affected by the summit. Bus lines 12, 21, 22, 27 36 60 79 that run via Schuman are diverted to Maalbeek. A number of entrances will be closed at the Schuman metro and train station. At the request of the police, the entire station can also be closed.
