Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will hold talks with industry leaders on February 26, pledging to assure top local producers that the EU will act to boost competitiveness during an ambitious green transition.
The engagement is likely to occur after the EU Commission unveils earlier that day the Clean Industrial Deal, a scheme to help Europe contend with US and Chinese rivals, sources said, Bloomberg reported.
The European Commission’s Clean Industrial Deal (CID) is an initiative to increase the competitiveness of the EU industrial base while keeping its decarbonization goals in focus. The CID aims to make Europe’s industrial base more robust so it remains competitive and sustainable in this fast-changing world.
It tries to support the industries in transition towards cleaner technologies without affecting the economic growth in the process. The CID is anticipated to be announced on February 26, 2025. It will mark one of the early legislative outputs of the Commission under its new mandate.
What are the key pillars of the Clean Industrial Deal?
The Clean Industrial Deal is based on several pillars that are designed to enhance the competitiveness of Europe’s industry and facilitate decarbonization.
The strategy focuses on six main themes: Energy Prices, ensuring access to affordable and clean energy; Workforce Issues, addressing labor challenges during the transition; Recycling and Critical Raw Materials, enhancing resource efficiency; Global Action, promoting international cooperation on clean technologies; Lead Markets, fostering vibrant markets for European cleantech solutions; and finally, a focus on trade policies that support these goals.
