Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The European Parliament will discuss EU-US relations, following the outcome of the U.S. Presidential election.

European Parliament will hold a plenary session in Brussels to discuss outcomes of the October and November European Council gatherings and, most importantly assess EU-US relations after the election of Donald Trump as United States President and examine the EU’s civilian and defence preparedness.

MEP Andrzej Halicki Vice-Chair of the EPP Group responsible for Foreign Affairs said: “The U.S. is the EU’s key strategic partner, and together, we face critical challenges for peace and stability. Cooperation with the incoming U.S. Administration is crucial.

“A stronger, self-reliant Europe in terms of security and defence will also benefit our partners. The EPP Group has been working towards this objective for years. It is fitting that on the day of the U.S. election results, Andrius Kubilius was confirmed as Europe’s first Commissioner for Defence,” highlights Also in the European Parliament this week the European Commission will deliver a statement:  “Fight against money laundering and terrorist financing: listing Russia as a high-risk third country in the EU.”

Sauli Niinistö – ex-President of the Republic of Finland and Special Adviser to the President of the European Commission – will present a report on how to improve Europe’s civilian and defence preparedness and readiness.
