EU Commissioner Hoekstra to address COP29 in Baku

Baku (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – EU Commissioner Hoekstra in Baku at the COP29 Leaders’ plenary and World Climate Action Summit.

Tomorrow on 12 Nov 2024 EU Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra will be in Baku, Azerbaijan, to partake in the High-Level Segment of the COP29 UN Climate Change Conference and the World Leaders Climate Action Summit, on behalf of EU Commission President von der Leyen.

What topics will Commissioner Hoekstra address at COP29?

As reported by the press of the EU Commission, the visiting Commissioner will deliver opening statements at the Ministerial Dialogue on ‘Scaling up investment for Tripling Renewables and Doubling Energy Efficiency’, following up on the commitments made at COP28

During the afternoon, he will communicate on behalf of the EU at the ‘High-Level Roundtable on Energy: Advancing Climate Mitigation Action’, arranged by the COP29 Presidency and the International Energy Agency, and will represent the Commission at a high-level meeting of the Climate Club. Finally, he will talk at the Summit on Methane and non-CO₂ Greenhouse Gases, co-hosted by the COP29 Presidency, the United States and China.

In addition to these events, EU Commissioner Hoekstra will have a bilateral meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, President of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santhoki, the President of Kenya, William Ruto, the Minister for the Environment of Indonesia, Hanif F. Nurofiq, and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez.
