Enhancing gete valley: New spots and sustainable growth in Tienen

Tienen (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): spots in Houten Brugstraat and Schotelbeemdstraat offer fun for families and walkers. The Getestreek Project aims to enhance the Gete valley’s beauty and sustainability, supported by Mayor Katrien Partyka’s vision.

Two new chill-out spots have been set up on Houten Brugstraat and Schotelbeemdstraat. They have new bike parking and big picnic tables. Houten Brugstraat has fun stuff for kids like a playhouse and a climbing course. Families and groups can have meals outdoors in a nice, relaxed area. Schotelbeemdstraat known for walks now has new bike parking and a big picnic table. It’s a great place for people to relax before or after their walks. There’s also a shelter there for when the weather is bad so visitors can still enjoy the area no matter the conditions.

What are the goals and initiatives of the Getestreek Project to showcase and improve the Gete valley? 

The Getestreek Project is a team effort to show off and improve the Gete valley. It involves Tienen other towns by the river the Flemish Brabant region the Boerenbond, and nature groups. The valley is known for being less developed making it perfect for conservation and eco-friendly growth. The project focuses on the important rivers Grote Gete and Kleine Gete which flow through farmland adding to the area’s rural beauty. They want to protect the environment and help local farmers by promoting sustainable farming. The Gete valley has pretty nature spots and cute villages. The project wants to make these nature spots better so more people can visit and enjoy nature. They also want to connect locals with nature, creating chances for tourism and cultural events. They’re making new chill-out spots for everyone to relax and have fun in the beautiful surroundings. The project aims to keep nature safe help the area grow sustainably and make life better for locals. 

The Tienen mayor Katrien Partyka said they’re working together to make the Gete Valley more famous. They want to have enough water reserves make it easier for tourists to visit and give people the chance to enjoy the Gete. They’re also really focusing on cleaning up the water. By improving water quality, they hope that one day people can even swim in the Gete especially in Overlaar.
