From November 2023, the child benefit scheme in Brussels will change. There will be an additional condition for receiving a social allowance. If the total cadastral income exceeds 2,000 euros, you lose the right to a social allowance. This is reported by Iriscare, the organization responsible for family benefits in the Brussels region.
The total cadastral income includes all cadastral income from built real estate (houses and apartments) owned or usufruct by the members of the family. This additional condition should ensure that the allocation of social allowances is better targeted at the families that need them most.
The measure will not affect the basic child benefit, but only the social allowances. Some families are entitled to these benefits if they meet certain conditions. The amount is determined based on the taxable annual income of the family, the age of the children and the size of the family. The condition of cadastral income is thus added to these current conditions.
The measure will be applied from November and will have an impact from the December payout.
According to Iriscare, the measure will generate annual savings of approximately EUR 12 million.
