Londerzeel (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On December 25, 2025, in Londerzeel, an elderly couple from Antwerp crashed on Zwaluwstraat. The woman was trapped and taken to UZ Brussels. The driver’s license was revoked pending investigation.

As VRT News reported, Christmas Day ended in a serious accident for an elderly couple from Antwerp in Londerzeel. The crash happened just after 4:15 p.m. on Zwaluwstraat.

“The driver suddenly lost control for unknown reasons,”

said Commissioner Frank Maes of the KLM police zone (Kapelle-op-den-Bos, Londerzeel, Meise).

“He first collided with a traffic sign and a parked car. The impact caused the car to swerve sharply and fly into the facade of a house.”

What caused the Christmas Day crash in Londerzeel that injured an elderly woman?

Emergency services arrived at the scene quickly. Firefighters found the woman trapped inside the car. They had to cut open the roof to remove her from the wreckage, Maes said. She was taken to UZ Brussels in a life-threatening condition.

Doctors later said her condition had stabilised by the evening. The driver, her partner, was also taken to the hospital for a checkup but was not injured. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
A car crashed into the facade of a house, causing heavy damage. Police said the impact also broke an electrical wire, leaving several nearby homes without power for a time.

“For elderly drivers, we always check for a medical cause for the loss of control,”

the police said.

The driver passed a “Safe” signal during the check, but the public prosecutor’s office revoked his license pending a medical examination. Neighbours said they were shocked by the crash.

“It sounded like a bomb had exploded,”

said one witness.

“We immediately ran outside and saw the devastation. Fortunately, emergency services arrived quickly.”

On 13 December 2023, a car was stolen and driven into an apartment complex while being pursued by law enforcement in Londerzeel. The car lost control when it ran into the apartment building, creating large amounts of destruction to the structure, as well as a small fire.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. All of the residents living in the apartment complex were able to get out of the building before getting injured in any way. Police arrested both individuals who were driving the stolen vehicle
