On August 8, 2022, a woman caused an accident on the E17 highway near Ghent while driving to a festival in Amsterdam with some friends. The crash happened when she collided with a truck. The impact made her lose control of the steering wheel, and her car rolled over after hitting the central barrier. Despite the severity of the accident, both the driver and her passengers were unharmed.

How did a drug-influenced driver escape serious injury after E17 crash?

In court, the prosecutor delivered a message to the woman, saying, “You should be grateful that you are still here,” stressing how dangerous the accident could have been. The prosecutor highlighted the seriousness of her actions and the risks she posed to herself, her passengers, and other drivers on the road.

After being checked, the woman was found to be under the influence of drugs. She appeared in court on 25th October, where her lawyer admitted that: “She has learned her lesson.” The woman has been fined 1,760 euros and is banned from driving for 45 days. “Let this be a wake-up call,” concluded the court president.
