Disruption on Sunday due to Brussels Marathon

Editorial Team

The passage of the Brussels Marathon between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. will probably cause some traffic disruption and traffic jams today. Brussels Mobility therefore recommends using alternative routes to reach the city center.

The annual Brussels Marathon started on Sunday morning. The race route will remain closed to all traffic until 3 p.m. Brussels Mobility recommends avoiding the area surrounding the course by car. Participants and supporters can consult the mobility advice on the organization’s website. Furthermore, STIB is also adjusting a number of its lines.

The starting signal will be given at 9 am on De Brouckèreplein. The riders then walk via Emile Jacqmainlaan and Boudewijnlaan into the Annie Cordy tunnel. The tunnel will be closed to traffic in both directions from 7:30 am. The Botanical Garden Tunnel and Rogier Tunnel will also be closed, only in the direction of Basilica.

The route then crosses Ganshoren and Jette via Van Overbekelaan, Laarbeeklaan and Tentoonstellingslaan. Then it goes via the King Baudouin Park and the de Smet de Naeyer towards Park van Laken.

After passages along Dikkelindelaan, Koninklijk Parklaan and Koninginnelaan, the route makes a loop through the Noordwijk and the Port of Brussels (Havenlaan, Redersplein, Willebroekkaai, Simon Bolivarlaan, Koning Albert II-laan).

The riders leave via the Jules de Troozsquare towards Werkhuizenkaai, Monnoyerkaai and Vilvoordselaan, to run through the Park van Laken one last time via the Vilvoordsesteenweg and Van Praetlaan. Like last year, the finish is in the King Baudouin Stadium.

“It is important to know that the A12 towards Brussels will be closed at 7 am, from the junction with the Ring at Strombeek-Bever. This, together with the closure of the Annie Cordy tunnel, means that traffic coming from the A12 and E40-A10 should take a detour in the morning via the Ring R0 and enter Brussels via exit 17 (Anderlecht-Industrie),” he said.
