In Brussels, a fire raged in a house in the Paleizenstraat on Friday afternoon. There were no injuries, but the home suffered serious damage from the fire. The first floor and the mezzanine are uninhabitable, the Brussels fire brigade reports. He fought the fire from, among other things, the parking lot of a department store on the Koninginnelaan.

The fire in the house was noticed around 1:40 p.m., after which several witnesses informed the emergency services. When the fire service arrived, it turned out to be a one-storey house with a mezzanine on the roof.

“It was in that mezzanine that the fire raged,” says fire service spokesman Walter Derieuw. “The person present was able to bring himself to safety and fortunately was not injured. We fought the fire both from the outside, including the Lidl car park on Koninginnelaan, and from the inside.”

The fire has now been completely extinguished, but the damage is considerable. The mezzanine and the first floor are uninhabitable, and the clearing works and the after-extinguishing will take some time. The metal structure of the mezzanine also needs to be propped up. The cause of the fire was accidental, the fire service said. The local police set up a security perimeter for the extinguishing works, and STIB tram traffic was interrupted for a while.
