While Mayor De Clercq is ill, Hafsa El-Bazioui will take over his job. She will do the mayor’s work until he is better. The mayor’s office said they want him to get well soon and thanked everyone for understanding. Even though it’s a busy time for Ghent, they trust El-Bazioui to keep things going. Ghent is preparing to announce a significant austerity plan while he is away. This plan involves substantial budget cuts, aiming to save around €120 million each year, which will have considerable effects.
