Bruges (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Developer Sea Coast plans to build the Ten Walle campsite in Sint-Pieters, Bruges, featuring 245 spots and parking for 300 cars. The project faced rejection due to access issues and environmental concerns, with Alderman Franky advocating for alternative access routes.

Developer Sea Coast from Nieuwpoort has announced plans to build a new campsite called Ten Walle in Sint-Pieters, a district of Bruges. The campsite will feature 245 camping spots, parking for 300 cars, a reception building, and necessary infrastructure like roads. It will be in a green area surrounded by Blankenbergse Steenweg, Sint-Pietersmolenstraat, and Blankenbergse Dijk. This development aims to create a new tourist destination combining nature and modern camping facilities.

Should Bruges prioritize a new stadium for Cercle Brugge or ten walle campsite?

It has been said that this site is important because it has been considered a new stadium for Cercle Brugge, a local football club. The possibility of building either the campsite or the stadium on the same land has raised concerns about which project should come first. Balancing tourism, preserving green spaces, and developing sports facilities will be crucial in deciding the future of this area.

The project was rejected after receiving many negative comments and 21 objections. The main problems include car access from Blankenbergse Dijk, issues with water management, and no plan for a protected farm in the center of the site. Bruges alderman Franky Demon emphasized that access should be from Sint-Pietersmolenstraat instead of Blankenbergse Dijk, which should remain a route for walking and biking. He noted that the developer was informed about this before applying but didn’t consider it. They also feel the project is too large for the area.
