Beijing (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Chinese commerce ministry spokesperson said that Beijing has been “doing its best” to push for negotiations with the EU over its tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles.
European Union voted to raise the tariffs to as much as 45.3% in October after the European Commission opened an anti-subsidy investigation into whether Chinese companies benefited from preferential licenses and funding, as well as land, batteries and raw materials at below-market rates.
“China has been doing its best to push for negotiations with the EU,”
He Yadong stated.
“It is hoped that the EU will take notice of the call from industry and promote bilateral investment cooperation through dialogue and consultation.”
China also conducted its own investigations last year into imports of European Union brandy, dairy and pork products. He informed journalists that China’s anti-dumping inquiry into Europe’s pork items and anti-subsidy investigation into the EU’s dairy business was continued when asked about the progress of the cases.
“We will carry out the investigation in an open and transparent way according to Chinese laws and regulations and World Trade Organization regulations,”
He also stated.
What did the Chinese foreign minister comment on a recent European trip?
A few days back, the Chinese foreign minister stated that China considers Germany and the
European Union as a whole as a strategic partner. He said it wishes to develop closer cooperation with them based on free trade and multilateralism.
Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi signalled Chancellor Olaf Scholz that China is ready to strengthen “all-round cooperation” with Germany within friendly bilateral joint efforts to increase global peace and stability.
He was in Germany for the traditional Munich Security Conference. He held discussions with the EU’s foreign policy chief, his Spanish and French counterparts, and Scholz.
In a statement released by the Chinese foreign ministry, Wang said to Scholz China’s preference for Germany’s “rational and pragmatic” attitude towards the tariffs. Without giving particulars, the statement also stated China and the EU should jointly work towards more profitable mutual relations.
