Knokke-Heist (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Cathy Coudyser became Knokke-Heist’s first female mayor, ending 40 years of Gementebelangen’s leadership. Her party, Inzicht, plans to make some changes while respecting the town’s history.

Cathy Coudyser became the first female mayor of Knokke-Heist on 5 December. The ceremony was held at Leopold Lippenspark and many friends, family, and residents were present. Her party, Inzicht, won the recent elections, ending the 40-year rule of the Gemeentebelangen party. This is the first time in 40 years that the mayor is not from the Lippens family.

Cathy Coudyser was appointed as the new mayor of Knokke-Heist. Her party plans to introduce new ideas that differ from the previous Gemeentebelangen party. The crowd showed excitement during the ceremony, recognizing this important moment. As the first female mayor, Coudyser will work to honor the town’s history while making new changes.

According to Cathy Coudyser,  residents want a different policy, changes will happen gradually. She plans to create a new long-term plan while mostly following the previous team’s policies for now. Piet De Groote, the first alderman and former member of Gemeentebelangen, aims to restore pride in the town and improve trust between the administration and municipal services.
