Mol (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Café Boulevard in Mol received provincial approval after appeals. The project restores the historic café, adds a 31-room hotel, 16 parking spaces, and involves heritage specialists.
As VRT News reported, the historic building on Corbiestraat in Mol, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, planned to host the new Café Boulevard hotel and restaurant, has received its permit from the provincial government.
The project had previously been approved by the municipal council, but a resident filed an appeal, delaying the process. The appeal required the provincial government to review the application again before granting final approval. Authorities confirmed that all concerns were examined during the review.
What’s next for Café Boulevard in Mol after provincial approval for the hotel and restoration?
The provincial government approved the project with limited adjustments. The developers made changes to reduce noise and odours, adjust the height at the site boundary, and improve mobility and access on the property. The province stated that the changes are minor and do not require a new public consultation.
The Café Boulevard project in Mol includes the careful restoration of the historic café building, which will be converted into a restaurant. The upper floor will feature a caretaker’s apartment for on-site management. Heritage specialists have worked closely with the developers to ensure that the architectural and historical value of the building is fully preserved.
Next to the café, a new building will be constructed to accommodate the hotel, which will include 31 rooms and suites spread across several floors. An underground parking garage with 16 spaces will also be added to provide convenient access for guests.
The redevelopment of Café Boulevard in Mol has a complex history. Plans for a restaurant and hotel were first submitted in February 2021 and went through a public inquiry between 22 February and 23 March. The previous iteration of the project was approved by the provincial deputation of Antwerp on 9 December 2021.
Objections and appeals suspended the work, including a renewed appeal in June 2025. The provincial government gave its approval recently, but with this, there is now certainty, and the Mol municipal council took notice of this decision.
