Brussels Police investigate car fire in Roger tunnel incident

Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper): A car fire in the Roger tunnel confirmed by the Brussels Fire Brigade led to tunnel closures. Five people were checked on-site but no injuries were reported. Brussels police are investigating the cause.

A car caught fire at the Yser exit of the Rogier tunnel in the direction of Basilique which forced the Brussels Fire Brigade to confirm this incident around midday on Monday. Traffic in the tunnel in both directions toward the north of Brussels was closed. It’s best to steer clear of that area  said Walter Derieuw of the Brussels Fire Brigade .

What Caused the Fire in the Roger Tunnel in Brussels?

The blaze got extinguished somewhere near half past twelve and right now they are airing out the tunnel. It has been reported that  Brussels Mobility has turned on the tunnel fans. Five persons were examined by the physician from the urgent services present at the site but no one was hospitalized. According to him .All the occupants of the flaming automobile are fine. 

The tunnel’s electrical system got damaged from the fire. It has been reported that they need to inspect the installation because of this issue. Around 1:10 PM Mobiris confirmed that the entrance to the Annie Cordy Tunnel towards Basilique is closed because of the emergency services activity in the Roger Tunnel. It’s still unknown what caused the car to catch fire or how long the tunnel will stay closed.
