Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – UZ Brussel’s Brussels IVF and Imelda Hospital partnered to offer easier IVF access. Egg retrieval happens in Bonheiden; fertilisation in Brussels. Key people: Dr. Sofie Pelckmans, Herman Tournaye.

As VRT News reported, UZ Brussel is known worldwide for its work in helping people have babies through medical methods, especially in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The hospital has been helping many couples who couldn’t have children. They mentioned that with its advanced technology and expert staff, UZ Brussel is a top place for IVF, offering complete care for those needing help with reproduction.

According to the officials, because of its expertise, Imelda Hospital in Bonheiden teamed up with Brussels IVF, which is part of UZ Brussel. They mentioned that patients can have their egg retrieval done at Imelda Hospital, making the first step of IVF more convenient and saving travel time for people in the area.

“Fertilisation, embryo monitoring, and transfer take place in the Brussels IVF lab.”

How does the Brussels IVF–Imelda partnership improve IVF care and patient experience?

Patients get ongoing support throughout their IVF journey, with follow-up care at Imelda Hospital after they conceive. Egg retrieval occurs locally, but fertilisation, embryo monitoring, and transfer happen at Brussels IVF’s modern lab, open every day. According to Herman Tournaye, this precise timing is key. The partnership between Imelda Hospital and Brussels IVF aims to make it easier for patients to achieve parenthood through this integrated approach.

Dr. Sofie Pelckmans from Imelda Hospital is excited about the partnership with Brussels IVF. She highlights the personalised care it enables for patients. According to Dr. Pelckmans, the collaboration allows for flexibility, which is essential for a positive and supportive environment during fertility treatments.

She mentioned that this ensures patients receive the best care possible throughout their IVF journey. The Imelda team stays involved, guiding and following up with patients. They provide continuity and reassurance throughout the treatment.

“Due to the good and smooth cooperation with Brussels IVF, you do not have the feeling that you are ending up in such a large centre.”

Patient Evelien (33)

Evelin, a 33-year-old, had a good experience with the collaboration this spring. She said the smooth cooperation between Imelda Hospital and Brussels IVF made her feel comfortable. She didn’t feel overwhelmed by a large centre. Instead, she received personal care, which she appreciated.

Evelin felt welcomed throughout her treatment, just like at Imelda Hospital. Patients at Imelda Hospital can now choose between Brussels IVF and the Leuven University Fertility Centre. Both centres work the same way, offering expert care and technology.

“In any case, we are open to similar collaborations with other centres, as this increases the comfort and chances of patients,”

Concludes Herman Tournaye of Brussels IVF.
