Brussels International Women’s Film Festival Celebrates Female Filmmakers

Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): The Brussels International Women’s Film Festival runs from October 1-6, showcasing films by women globally, including Gloria and Indivision. It features 13 features, 5 documentaries, and short films from various countries.

The Brussels International Women’s Film Festival (BIWFF) shows movies made by women worldwide. People can watch Indivision by Leila Kilani on October 3rd at 6:30 PM. It’s about a silent teenager in Tangier dealing with family issues and social media. The movie is shown at Cinema Galeries. Tickets for both films are available, with Gloria at the Palace Cinema and Indivision at Cinema Galeries.

What Films Will Be Showcased at BIFF 2024?

The festival features 13 movies, 5 documentaries, and various short films. There’s a group of 10 films called ‘Iran Session’ and another with 20 international shorts divided into three themes. These films explore various countries like Brazil, Egypt, Morocco, Mexico, Turkey, Italy, Nepal, Colombia, and Croatia. In another part of the festival, they highlight up-and-coming female filmmakers. They focus on young Belgian women directors and their first and second films. Fien Troch, a talented Belgian director known for her film Home, is part of this event.

Anny Tubbs, a documentary filmmaker from Brussels serving at the festival, describes the upcoming program as “fun, moving, inspiring, empowering.” Anny Tubbs stresses that in Europe, only 25% of movies are directed by women. She points out that women encounter obstacles worldwide when making films. She emphasizes the importance of sharing their stories to enhance our understanding of the world.
