Brussels celebrates 65 years of the Smurfs: Peyo’s Blue Legacy

Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper): On October 23, 1958, Belgian cartoonist Peyo (Pierre Culliford) introduced the Smurfs in Spirou magazine. Brussels celebrates its legacy with The Great Smurf Adventure exhibition featuring interactive activities and life-sized models of the Smurf village.

On October 23, 1958, the world was introduced to the Smurfs, created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo (Pierre Culliford). These little blue characters were introduced in the comic strip Johan and Peewit in the magazine Robbedoes (known as Spirou in French). Since then, the Smurfs have gained worldwide popularity, becoming beloved characters through TV shows, movies, and merchandise enjoyed by people of all ages.

What can visitors expect at “The Great Smurf  Adventure” exhibition in Brussels?

Brussels is celebrating the Smurfs with a big interactive exhibition called The Great Smurf Adventure. This event invites fans into the magical world of the Smurfs with fun activities, games, and detailed models of the Smurf village. Visitors can explore life-sized Smurf houses, meet the characters, and enjoy various activities for kids and adults. It has been said that the exhibition combines the charm of the classic Smurf comics with modern technology, offering a new experience to relive the adventures of these blue heroes.

With 3D projections, attendees experience the Smurf adventures. The exhibition features VR glasses that enable visitors to fly with a stork, similar to the Smurfs. It includes 9 themed zones and lasts approximately 75 minutes.
