Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Brussels Airlines confirmed its A320 fleet is unaffected by Airbus metal panel quality issues. Inspections affect other aircraft, but the airline’s planes remain fully safe and operational.

As VRT News reported, Brussels Airlines confirmed that its A320 planes are not affected by the Airbus metal panel quality issue. The airline said all its aircraft remain safe and fully operational. Airbus is working with airlines and aviation authorities to make sure inspections are completed efficiently.

What Airbus inspections mean for Brussels Airlines’ A320 fleet safety

The German airline group Lufthansa, parent company of Brussels Airlines, said 11 recently delivered aircraft must undergo inspections. Of these, 6 are in service with Lufthansa City Airlines, 4 fly with Swiss, and 1 is with Lufthansa. The inspections are part of standard safety checks to make sure all aircraft meet operational rules.

Brussels Airlines has 35 A320 family planes in its fleet. Spokeswoman Joëlle Neeb said these aircraft are not affected and remain fully safe. The inspections follow a recent Airbus announcement that about 6,000 A320 planes worldwide require an urgent software update.

The update was prompted by a computer malfunction on a JetBlue aircraft in the United States. Airbus is coordinating with airlines to install the update quickly while keeping flight schedules as normal as possible.

European Airbus announced yesterday, Dec 2, 2025, that up to 628 A320 family planes will be checked due to metal panels that may have quality issues. These panels are key parts of the aircraft structure.

168 planes are already in service, while the rest are still being produced. Airbus said that for most planes, the inspections will be routine. No extra work is expected in most cases. The company said the problem is mainly precautionary and does not pose an immediate safety risk.

Airbus has faced similar issues in the past with its aircraft. In 2023, certain A320neo planes were checked for possible fuel line leaks, affecting dozens of aircraft worldwide. In 2019, a software update for A350 planes was needed to fix problems in fuel and electrical systems.
