Bruges (Brussels Morning Newspaper): A fire at Sleeplife, a bed shop at 4:30 AM, causing total loss but no injuries, confirmed by Mayor Dirk De Fauw. The fire department chooses a controlled burn to ensure safety. Police advised residents to keep windows closed and established an orange zone for emergency services.

On 28th October a fire broke out at 4:30 AM at Sleeplife, a bed shop, resulting in a total loss for the company. Mayor Dirk De Fauw confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident. The fire department quickly controlled the situation, and the early morning timing helped minimize risks. Since it was cold outside, most residents had their windows closed, which reduced the chance of inhaling toxic smoke or fumes.

Why did the Bruges Fire Department choose controlled burn for sleep life?

The fire department has decided to let the building at Sleeplife burn out in a controlled way instead of putting it out immediately because of the severity of the fire. This helps prevent more damage and keeps firefighters safe. They mentioned that it may take several hours to burn out, but officials are closely observing the situation. It has been said that losing the business is a big loss.

Lien Deporter from the Bruges police is notifying people to keep their windows and doors closed. They have made a safety area for emergency services, called an orange zone. This lets residents go home, but others should stay away from the area between Expresweg, N31, and Torhoutse Steenweg. Nearby businesses are having problems because the utilities are turned off, so most workers can’t get to their jobs, but those at the construction site on Veemarkt and the supermarket can still work.
