Bilzen’s main square: A new hub for sports and community

Bilzen (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Schoonbeek’s main square is being transformed with a new football pitch and outdoor sports area enhancing community sports options. The redevelopment also includes community gardening spaces for local residents.

The main square in Schoonbeek, part of Bilzen is going to become a lively place for fun and sports with new facilities being built. They are currently putting in a new football pitch and the artificial grass will be laid down by Friday. This new pitch is meant to give local football players a great place to play and improve the community’s sports options. Along with the football pitch a new outdoor sports area is being built in front of it. This area will have different sports and play equipment for various activities and fun. Alderman Peter This said that these new facilities will give people in the community plenty of chances to exercise and have fun which will help everyone stay healthy and active.

How is Bilzen’s main square being transformed into a vibrant community hub?

The main square in Schoonbeek, Bilzen is changing into a lively area for sports games and gardening. They are building a new football pitch and right now they are laying the base for it. The artificial grass will be put down by Friday. There will also be an outdoor sports zone with different sports and play equipment for various activities and fitness needs. The nearby scout area will really benefit from these new facilities especially during the summer camps. The scouts will have easy access to the football pitch and the outdoor sports zone which will make their camp experience even better with more fun activities. This will help provide a variety of options for the youth making the central square a great place for both local residents and scout groups.

Along with the sports and play areas the redevelopment of the central square in Schoonbeek will also have space for community gardening. Alderman Peter This mentioned that there will be allotments small gardens for people who don’t have their own outdoor space. These allotments will give local residents a chance to grow their own plants, vegetables, and flowers. In addition, a shelter for gardening tools will be built in the area. This shelter will be used for storage and will also be a place where people can meet and socialize. Alderman This sees the whole central square as a “social lung” for Schoonbeek encouraging community involvement and providing a shared space for fun and social activities. This development aims to improve both the practical and social sides of the neighborhood making it a lively and welcoming place for everyone.
