Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): At the World Beer Awards in England no fewer than 11 Belgian beers take top prizes in all sorts of different categories from World’s Best Sour and Wild Beer to Best Spirit Beer for Cuvée Clarisse.
In England 11 Belgian beers won top prizes at the World Beer Awards. The competition has been running for 16 years with judges from different parts of the beer industry picking the best beers worldwide from traditional pilsners to flavorful stouts and IPAs. Breweries from big names to new ones all take part.
What Belgian beers dominated the world beer awards in 2024
This year awards were won by Belgian breweries in all categories. They were particularly outstanding in the World’s Best Sour and Wild Beer. In that category five Belgian beers emerged victorious. Boon Millésime Oude Schaarbeekse Kriek was named the best Kriek beer globally and Sosab Flemish Red Ale XII from Kortrijk Brew Society was top of the pack when it came to Flanders Red Ales.
The Gold for the Best Oud Bruin went to Queue de Charrue while Brouwerij Kestemont’s apricot beer bagged the first place in fruit lambic category Oude Geuze Boon from Boon Brewery located in Lembeek Flemish Brabant won the title of Best Gueuze. Even Belgian breweries performed well under World’s Best Dark Beer category. Tongerlo Brown Beer was awarded as Best Dark Belgian Style Dubbel by Brouwerij Haacht with Hoegaarden’s Verboden Vrucht being the champion of Dark Beer Strong. Only one Belgian beer participated in the Flavoured Beer Category . Cuvée Clarisse a mixture with rum from Brouwerij Wilderen that won the title of World’s Best Spirit Beer.
