Belgian Thomas Detry wins first PGA tour title at Phoenix Open

Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Belgian Thomas Detry, 32 years of age, won the 2025 WM Phoenix Open with a score of 24-under 260 for his first PGA Tour victory. This also made him the first Belgian to win on the PGA Tour as he beat Michael Kim and Daniel Berger by 7 strokes.

Belgian Thomas Detry becomes the first Belgium player to earn a PGA Tour title at WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona. Officials reported that a 32-year-old from Brussels played very good golf. In the first round, he scored 66.

He scored 64 in the second round, with which he was at 12-under par. He was one inch away from a hole-in-one shot while playing on the 16th hole. After firing 65 in the 3rd round, he found himself 5 shots clear of the others. In the final round also, he managed to shoot another 65. He concluded with a total of 24-under-par 260 to take away the title of the tournament.

How did Thomas Detry make history with his first PGA Tour win?

According to authorities, Detry’s win was important for Belgian golf. He won by 7 strokes over Michael Kim and Daniel Berger. Other players included Jordan Spieth and Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who tied for 4th place. Justin Thomas, Robert MacIntyre, and Will Chandler shared 6th place. Officials mentioned that as the first Belgian to win on the PGA Tour, he inspires young golfers in Belgium to aim for success.

After winning the WM Phoenix Open, Thomas Detry felt very happy and relieved. He said,

“This is just a fantastic feeling.”

Detry said.

“I’ve been close many times and it was always the little things that went wrong. But during this tournament, everything seemed to fall into place.”

According to Detry, his victory gives him a spot on the PGA Tour for the next 2years, so he does not have to worry about qualifying for tournaments. He can also compete in major championships and other big events. For his win, Detry will earn $1,656,000, a large amount that helps him stand out among the best players. This money, along with his secure place on the tour and chances to play in top events.
