Beersel (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Beersel launches a contest allowing residents to win a fully funded neighbourhood party, aiming to foster community spirit and vibrant local connections.

To commemorate European Neighbor Day and to motivate citizens to improve their relationships with their neighbours, the municipality is holding a competition. Taking a good picture with the neighbours is all they need to do to have a chance.

Today is the first time that Beersel, Belgium, is officially celebrating European Neighbours Day. Free neighbor packages with entertaining devices are being offered by the town. These consist of a poster to hang in the window and a sticker.

“This way you can show your neighbours that you are a supportive neighbour”,

Says alderman for Neighbourhood Activities Lora Hasenbroekx (Lijst Burgemeester).

“This way they know that they can come to you for a listening ear or if they need help, for example with a job or the groceries.”

Furthermore, a tournament is being organized by the municipality. Residents can use this to enter a free neighbourhood gathering that the municipality has planned in full. They only need to snap a picture with their neighbours and submit it by June 20th.

“That can be something very small: a nice selfie with your neighbor, for example. You make it as original or crazy as you want. We will then choose one winner.”

The municipality wants to give residents a push in the back to get to know each other better.

“We think it is important that we have vibrant neighborhoods in Beersel and that of course starts with your own neighbors.”

What activities are planned for the Beersel community party?

A range of entertaining and social events aimed at uniting neighbors and celebrating local culture are usually included in the Beersel community party schedule.

Residents are encouraged to socialize by sharing food and beverages in a relaxed, pleasant environment.

Like café concerts at places like Bierhuis Oud Beersel, local bands or artists perform to create a happy atmosphere.

Activities that appeal to both children and adults include treasure hunts, artistic workshops, and classic games.

Mixing cultural education with community building by touring local heritage sites like Beersel Castle and the Oud Beersel Brewery.

Events could feature food pairings or tastings of local Lambic beers, honoring regional delicacies, given Beersel’s rich beer history.
