Clare Daly

Clare Daly is an Irish Member of the European Parliament. Daly became involved in politics while a student of accountancy at Dublin City University in the 1980s, where she was twice elected president of the Students' Union. After graduating she worked in the catering section of Aer Lingus, and was involved in labour organising, acting as shop steward for the Services Industrial Professional and Technical Union. She was elected to Fingal County Council – a local council in County Dublin – in 1999 and served as a councillor there for twelve years. In 2011 she was elected to Dáil Éireann, Ireland's national parliament. She occupied her seat in the Dáil until June 2019, when she won election to the European Parliament for the Dublin constituency.
