A 10-year-old girl from Sint-Katelijne-Waver, Antwerp has won a nature award, making her parents very proud. They describe her as a curious child who has loved nature from a young age, always asking questions and seeking answers. She enjoys watching animals and insects and often explores the outdoors.

What inspired a 10-year-old girl from Antwerp to win a nature award?

In preparation for the competition, she collected insects from a pond near her home using a net. With the help of the Obsidentify app, she identified each specimen, discovering a range of species such as water squirrels, water boatmen, pond runners, water skaters, black-tailed flies, and dragonflies. She mentioned that the diversity of life in the pond fascinated her, and each discovery fueled her passion for biology. Her parents are proud that her hard work and dedication to nature have been recognized, and they hope this award will inspire her to continue her studies.

Lynn’s research has earned her a gold medal and some exciting prizes. The scientists from ZOO Science are giving her a special behind-the-scenes tour, and she will visit the Antwerp Zoo with her entire class, guided by an expert. This initiative by Antwerp Zoo and Planckendael aims to inspire young scientists. Director Linda Van Elsacker stated, “We want to spark curiosity in children. Their research starts with their love for nature.”
