On 18 July at Antwerp Zoo Max, a young elephant arrived from Prague after a long journey. It was his first time exploring his new home. Ilse Segers speaking for the zoo mentioned how Max could become good friends with Sam another young male elephant at the zoo. Antwerp Zoo really cares about its animals and Max’s arrival is a big part of this. The zookeepers will keep a close eye on how he adjusts to his new home. They will take good care of him to make sure he is happy and healthy at the zoo.
How is Antwerp Zoo preparing young elephant Max for a future breeding program?
Antwerp Zoo not only gives elephants like Max a place to live but also helps protect animals through breeding programs. These programs make sure endangered species have enough different genes and can survive well. Max being a young elephant is chosen by the zoo to be a breeding bull in the future with a group of female elephants. Ilse Segers says that Max is being trained for a special job in the future. The zoo is helping him get used to living there and making friends with other elephants. This will help Max learn how to behave and get along with female elephants when he’s older. This plan is not just good for Max but also helps protect elephants for the future.
In the next few days Max the new young elephant at Antwerp Zoo will have his caretaker from Prague with him to help him settle in. The caretaker is there to make sure Max feels comfortable in his new home. Ilse Segers said it’s important to give Max enough time to get used to everything and the zoo will let him take things at his own pace. When Max is ready and the weather is good he will get to explore the outdoor areas of the zoo. Sam will be Max’s buddy and help him make friends, which is really important for Max’s happiness and fitting in with the other elephants at Antwerp Zoo. It has been said that this slow introduction and making friends process is meant to make sure Max feels safe and happy in his new home building relationships that will help him in the long run at the zoo’s conservation work.
