Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Antwerp’s winter festivities will feature enhanced security due to recent attacks, with increased police presence, motorcycle units, and undercover officers monitoring crowds. The threat level remains at three following last year’s Brussels attack.

It has been said that winter in Antwerp is a favourite yearly event with festive markets, ice skating, and holiday attractions, and it requires careful planning for safety. The Antwerp police send teams to be present at the event, helping visitors feel secure and preventing any threats. Uniformed officers patrol the area daily, and special teams are present for quick response if necessary. These measures are key to keeping the large crowds safe as they enjoy the celebrations.

What enhanced security measures are being implemented for Antwerp’s winter festival?

This year, after a serious attack in Germany, security has been stepped up. There will be more police on the streets, and special teams will be watching closely. Motorcycle units will patrol areas, and undercover officers will look for any suspicious behaviour. These changes aim to keep everyone safe and ensure that events can be enjoyed without worry. Local and national security agencies are working together to ensure a secure environment for all.

Security measures are being reviewed based on the OCAD threat assessment. After last year’s attack in Brussels that killed two Swedish football fans, the threat level for the country is currently at three. For now, there’s no reason to raise this level. If it does change, the police in Antwerp will implement additional safety measures.
