Last night on 18th October, two 18-year-olds from Antwerp climbed the scaffolding around the university hall at Oude Markt, attracting a lot of attention from nearby students. The incident started around 3 a.m. when the teenagers began climbing up several floors of the scaffolding, which is there for renovation. Many people gathered to watch them.

Why did two Antwerp teens climb scaffolding on Leuven’s Oude Markt?

Local police were quickly called when the teenagers climbed the scaffolding. They arrived and told the boys to come down, but the teenagers ignored them and kept climbing. Police spokesman Mathieu Caudron confirmed the incident and highlighted the importance of safety at construction sites. He mentioned that this situation shows the risky behavior of the boys and reminds everyone about the dangers of being in such areas.

The fire department was called, and they arrived with a ladder truck, but the boys still refused to come down. They even crawled into a gutter to avoid the firefighters. They got into the ladder truck, and once they were safe, the police took them away, and they spent the night in jail. They received fines for their actions, up to 350 euros, and they might also have to pay for the fire department’s response.
