Sint-Niklaas (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): CC Sint-Niklaas has converted ‘t Bau-huis into a temporary theatre with an 11m x 10m stage, ensuring high-quality sound and lighting, as Alderman Filip Baeyens noted, until renovations finish in January.

The city theatre in Sint-Niklaas is being renovated, and the local cultural center, CC Sint-Niklaas, needed a new place to hold events. Instead of skipping a whole season of shows, they decided to turn the small hall of ‘t Bau-huis into a temporary theatre. This hall has been recently updated and is now ready to be used as a pop-up theatre.

What upgrades were made to ‘t Bau-huis for Sint-Niklaas’ Pop-Up theatre?

The conversion of ‘t Bau-huis involved upgrading the small hall with essential equipment such as lighting, sound systems, and stage setups to make it suitable for cultural performances. This pop-up theatre can now host a variety of events, including plays, music shows, and other cultural activities, helping to keep the arts scene vibrant in Sint-Niklaas while the main theatre is under renovation. By making these modifications, the city has successfully created a space that meets the high standards expected from a dedicated theatre, providing a temporary solution for local audiences and performers.

According to Alderman Filip Baeyens, the new pop-up theatre at ‘t Bau-huis has a big stage, 11 meters wide and 10 meters deep, which can host all kinds of shows, from plays to musicals. Even though it’s temporary, it’s set up well for great performances with good lighting and sound. The audience probably won’t even notice it’s a temporary place because the stage is so impressive. The city wants to keep the same high standards as the main theatre, so the cultural season can continue smoothly. This pop-up venue keeps the local arts scene active until the main theatre is ready again.

It has been said that the technicians have been busy for two weeks building a long structure for the sound system at the temporary theatre. This setup makes sure the sound is great and everyone can see well, so the shows should be enjoyable. After the performances, people can hang out at the café run by Dirk Van de Merckt, which is cozy and has plenty of beer. They’re also working hard to finish the new city theatre by the end of January, with new seats being put in and painting starting next week.
