ACT FOR GAZA: Silence and inactions amount to complicity

The ongoing atrocities in Gaza are a blatant violation of international law. The world cannot remain silent as innocent civilians, including children, are starved and killed.

The United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) have a responsibility to act. There are no valid excuses for the international community’s failure to stop the slaughter in Gaza. Protecting innocent lives must be the top priority.

Hamas must release the Israeli hostages immediately. Children and other innocent civilians should not be punished.

The Israeli government must be held accountable. Their actions in Gaza blatantly breach the Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law. The occupying power has a legal obligation to ensure civilians’ access to essentials.

Considering that the Israeli extremist government has shown that mere words of condemnation are inadequate, it is essential to take decisive action. As Members of the European Parliament representing various political groups and independent parties, we collectively call for:

  • Providing humanitarian aid and ensuring it reaches the people in Gaza.
  • Suspend the entire EU-Israel Association Agreement.
  • Impose sanctions on the Israeli extremism government.
  • Article 99 of the UN Charter empowers the UN Secretary-General to alert the Security Council to threats to peace. It is time for the UN to invoke this article and take immediate action to stop the massacre in Gaza.
  • Recognize Palestine based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. We recognized Israel long ago, now it is time to also recognize the rights of the Palestinian people.

It is a moral imperative for governments and the international community to act. Silence and inactions amount to complicity.

Future generations will judge today’s leaders on their response, or lack thereof, to the atrocities in Gaza. Failing to act now will be remembered as a moral stain on humanity. The time for moral cowardice is over, and action must be swift.
