Halle (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 22-year-old man from Asse died in a highway crash on the E429 near Hondzocht, Halle. His sister and 2 children survived with minor injuries. Authorities are investigating.
As VRT News reported, a 22-year-old man from Asse died in a highway accident on the E429 near Hondzocht in Halle. The crash happened early Saturday morning, Dec 6, 2025, around 1 a.m., but the news only became public days later.
“Apparently, the driver veered out of his lane for unknown reasons and then crashed into the concrete median,”
says Ingrid Moriau of the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office.
“The young man likely counter-steered as much as possible. When the car regained traction, it began to spin and then overturned. The car then ended up on the other side of the road. No other cars were involved in the accident”
What caused the fatal E429 crash in Halle?
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash on the E429 near Hondzocht in Halle. Despite their quick response, the 22-year-old driver from Asse could not be saved. His sister and 2 young children were in the car at the time of the accident. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and are reported to be in stable condition.
Police and investigators are working to determine what caused the car to leave the road. The family of the young man, who was well-known and popular in the region, has not yet made a public statement.
The E429 or A8 has witnessed several serious accidents over the years, including 3 fatalities and 2 serious injuries due to an accident near Petit-Enghien, Belgium, in June 2023. In that accident, a vehicle travelled off the road, hitting a safety barrier before colliding head-on with a van. Although investigators theorise that excessive speed likely contributed to the crash, the investigation into the exact causes is still ongoing.
In 2015, another major accident was reported on this same highway near Halle, where 4 were injured when the driver lost control and struck the concrete barrier. Other accidents throughout this same year resulted in injuries as well as considerable traffic delays due to the blocking by wreckage.
