Halle (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Halle invites residents to decorate streets for Christmas. Alderman Demesmaeker says a jury will judge originality, atmosphere, and teamwork. At least 3 houses must participate from Dec 8, 2025, –Jan 18, 2026.

As VRT News reported, the city of Halle is asking residents to join forces and decorate their streets for Christmas. They mentioned that the plan encourages neighbours to work together and create festive displays.

Alderman Demesmaeker said the goal is to spread Christmas cheer and bring communities closer. Halle will reward the street that is the most creative. The winning street will receive a neighbourhood lunch.

What street will be named the most festive this Christmas?

A jury in Halle will choose the city’s most festive Christmas neighbourhood. Streets will be judged on originality, the holiday atmosphere, and how well neighbours work together.

“Everyone is welcome to participate with all kinds of decorations, as long as they’re Christmas-themed. It doesn’t matter whether it’s decorated windows or a cosy corner on the street with a stall, for example. Decorated facades or balconies are also encouraged, so even people without a front garden have a chance.”

There are rules for residents who want to take part. At least 3 houses within a 200-meter radius must be decorated for a street to qualify. All decorations must be in place between December 8th, 2025, and January 18th, 2026. Registration is open on the city’s official website

Halle has had a long-standing custom of decorating the streets for holiday celebrations. The City of Halle introduced its Christmas Neighbourhood Initiative in 2012 to promote neighbourly cooperation and participation in holiday decorating. In 2015, Halle began to recognise the most creatively decorated and festive streets through the establishment of a jury. Since that time,

the contest has taken place every year, from early December through mid-January. Each year, streets are decorated with colourful lights, ornaments, and other creative displays that entice many visitors to come and see.
