As Nieuwsblad News reported, the federal police will start a 24-hour speed marathon at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Nov 12, 2025. Officers will be on the roads across the country checking drivers for speeding. Fixed speed cameras and average speed systems will also remain active during the operation.
What are the federal police doing to curb speeding on Belgian roads?
The federal police want to remind motorists to drive at safe speeds. Officials mentioned that the campaign is not only about catching those who break the rules but also about raising awareness. Drivers are urged to respect speed limits, stay alert, and take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others on the road.
The federal police organise a speed camera marathon twice a year, in spring and fall. During the last edition in April, a record number of vehicles were checked. Officers monitored 1.339 million cars in just 24 hours.
About 3.99% of vehicles checked were driving too fast. Of these, 1.69% were caught by fixed cameras, while mobile speed cameras detected 8.12% of violations. One notable edition was held on April 19, 2017, when officers checked 1.359 million vehicles in 24 hours. About 2.46% of drivers were caught speeding that day.
