Doha (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani accused Israel of breaking the ongoing ceasefire, claiming that Israel’s attacks on Gaza amount to genocide following a series of deadly strikes by Israel on Gaza despite the ceasefire.

Israel has continued its air strikes and gunfire in Gaza, raising worries that a tenuous ceasefire with Hamas could be jeopardised. Approximately 100 Palestinians had been killed since the ceasefire went into effect on October 10, according to Gazan officials.

How did Qatar’s emir accuse Israel of genocide?

The ruler of Qatar, a key mediator for the ongoing Gaza truce, speaking at the opening session of the Shura Council, Qatar’s legislative council, said Israel’s war on Gaza has been nothing but genocide, while criticising Israel’s continued breach of the ceasefire arrangement.

“We reiterate our condemnation of all Israeli violations and practices in Palestine, particularly the transformation of the Gaza Strip, an area unfit for human life (and) the continued violation of the ceasefire,”

Hamad Al Thani said in an address.

How did Hamad al-Thani criticise the international community?

Emir further said that the international community must provide protection for the Palestinian people and ensure that perpetrators of genocide do not escape accountability.

“It is unfortunate that the international community remains incapable of enforcing respect when it comes to the tragedy of the Palestinian people,”

he also said.

Why did Israel carry out fresh strikes on Gaza?

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have carried out multiple deadly strikes across Gaza following the deaths of two soldiers in the southern city of Rafah, which it blamed on Hamas. On Sunday, Israeli air attacks killed a reported 42 people, including children, according to local health officials.

Israel claimed it retaliated for a violation of the truce, stating that Hamas fighters shot and killed their two soldiers in Rafah.

How did Hamas respond to Israel’s accusations in Rafah?

Hamas denied any involvement in the incident, stating that they have had no contact with any of their remaining units in the Israeli-controlled areas of Rafah and are not responsible for any incidents that happen in those parts. One official purported that Israel was creating pretexts to continue the war.

What did President Trump say about the ceasefire’s status?

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire he negotiated remains active. He suggested that Hamas leadership might not be responsible for the violations.

“We think maybe the leadership isn’t involved in that,”

he briefed journalists.

“Either way … it’s going to be handled toughly but properly,”

Trump stated that he was unsure whether the Israeli strikes were justified.

“I’d have to get back to you on that,”

he said.
