Kapelle-op-den-Bos (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The De Druppelteen swimming pool in Kapelle-op-den-Bos will stay open until 2031 after a six-year deal, with aldermen confirming settlement of €50,000 in unpaid 2023 invoices.
As VRT News reported, the municipal swimming pool De Druppelteen in Kapelle-op-den-Bos, in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, will remain open and fully operational for the next 6 years. The agreement ensures that residents can use the pool until the end of 2031.
What secures the De Druppelteen pool in Kapelle-op-den-Bos until 2031?
Sports Aldermen Dirk Hermans (proKA Vooruit) and Marc De Laet (ledereen2830) said the previous agreement would have expired on December 31, 2025. They described the recent council discussions as very constructive and based on a shared goal of keeping the swimming pool accessible. The renewed agreement allows schoolchildren to continue their swimming lessons. Clubs that use the pool can also keep training as before. The cafeteria operator receives long-term security.
The municipalities of Kapelle-op-den-Bos and Willebroek had the agreement in principle at the end of April 2025. The agreement took longer to conclude because some aspects still had to be finalised.
A backlog of unpaid invoices from 2023 for over €50,000 was the biggest issue. Sports Alderman Dirk Hermans (proKA Vooruit) said the past months were necessary to put everything back on track.
Hermans added that the renewed agreement now guarantees uninterrupted use of the pool.
“Both municipal councils are happy that residents can continue to use the swimming pool for the next six years,”
he said.
The Kapelle-op-den-Bos De Druppelteen swimming pool opened in 2003 under the WIKA project. The pool was soon a central location for swimming classes, sports clubs, and communal activities within the town centre.
Both towns have long split the costs and operation of the pool, renewing contracts through the years to maintain its operation. The last contract was to end on December 31, 2025. After discussions earlier in 2025, a new 6-year agreement was signed, securing the pool’s operation until the end of 2031.
