Kremlin confirms planned Trump-Putin meeting in coming days

Moscow (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Top Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov stated on Thursday that an arrangement has been agreed, in principle, for a meeting with US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, “in the coming days.”

Yuri Ushakov, Russian presidential aide, told reporters about an arrangement for US President Donald Trump to meet with Russian President Vladimir.

When will the Trump-Putin summit take place?

“At the suggestion of the American side, an agreement has been reached in principle to hold a bilateral summit in the coming days,”

Ushakov was cited as saying by Russian media.

“We are now starting to work out the details together with our American colleagues,”

Ushakov also said. It is “difficult to say” how long these preparations will take, he continued, but the purpose is for the gathering to take place next week. He did not verify where the discussion would take place but expressed that the location has already been agreed upon and will be “announced later.”

What was discussed in the Witkoff-Putin meeting?

A day earlier, on August 6, 2025, Steve Witkoff, a special envoy for U.S. President Donald Trump, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The meeting occurred in the Kremlin and lasted about three hours in total. It was part of a last-minute diplomatic initiative by the U.S. to bolster calls for a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict while a sanctions deadline loomed from President Trump.

What did Trump say about talks with Putin?

In response to the meeting, Trump called the meeting “highly productive,” stating that great progress was made and that efforts toward ending the war would continue in the coming days and weeks. He said there was a “very good prospect” of a summit meeting soon with Russia that could lead to an end to the war in Ukraine.

“We had some very good talks with President Putin today, and there’s a very good chance that we could be ending – the ending, the road ending, the end of that road,”

He mentioned in the Oval Office, when questioned about the likelihood of a meeting, that near-term.

“That road was long and continues to be long, but there’s a good chance that there will be a meeting very soon,”
