62-year-old Hüseyin Cahit Ölmez dies in the Netherlands

Ghent (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Dutch-Turkish actor Hüseyin Cahit Ölmez (62) has died. He was known for Flikken as officer Selahattin Ate and starred in Medisch Centrum West, shaping inclusive Dutch-Flemish TV in Ghent.

According to VRT News, Hüseyin Cahit Ölmez, a Dutch-Turkish actor, has died at the age of 62. He was well-known in both the Flemish and Dutch entertainment industries. Ölmez acted in TV, movies, and plays. 

He was born in Turkey but raised in the Netherlands. He was one of the first prominent Dutch media actors to have an immigrant background. He helped show different cultures on screen. He often played characters from different cultures.

What made Cahit Ölmez a pioneering actor in Flikken and beyond?

One of Ölmez’s most famous roles was in the TV show “Flikken.” He played a police officer named Selahattin Ate. He was in the first 3 seasons of the show and was loved by many. “Flikken” was set in Ghent and was known for its real-life stories and actors like Andrea Croonenberghs. 

Ölmez continued to act in the Netherlands and Belgium after “Flikken”. His active performance career included many films, dramas and social issue/project acting. He eventually acted in the remake of the popular Dutch hospital drama “Medisch Centrum West”.

He was one of the first Turkish-Dutch actors in the Netherlands. People who worked with him and his fans, and other acts are still feeling sad about his loss. They remember him for his performing artistry and for the way he exercised his profession, through quiet dignity. They mentioned that his work will be remembered in the stories he helped tell.
