Princess Astrid at Antwerp Te Deum for July 21 National Day

Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On July 21st, 2025, Belgium’s National Day, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz attended the Te Deum in Antwerp. Many joined the service, showing unity, pride, and respect for tradition.

As VRT News reported, on July 21st, 2025, Belgium’s National Day, a special Te Deum service was held at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp. Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz were there. The church was full of people. 

Many came to take part in the service. It is sung in churches across Belgium on this day. The royal family takes turns going to different cities each year. This time, it was Antwerp’s turn. Their visit made the event more special. 

“That’s always a beautiful and solemn moment, and that’s how it should be, but it also has a unifying quality,”

Says Bishop Bonny.

“People are talking to each other today. I think that’s good for our society.”

What made the Te Deum in Antwerp special on July 21?

Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz took part in the Te Deum in Antwerp as part of a royal tradition. Every year, different members of the royal family visit churches in different cities for the national holiday. In Antwerp, a royal family member usually comes every 5 years.

1 person said that Belgium has its character, even with problems and differences. That morning, the government also reached an agreement after long talks. Officials mentioned that many people feel lucky to live in Belgium. They mentioned that on the news, we often see war and pain in places like Gaza, Ukraine, and Africa. 

In Turnhout, the Te Deum took place in St. Peter’s Church. Local people came to mark the national holiday. After the church service, there was a small reception in the wedding hall of the town hall.  In 2019, it was Prince Laurent who came to Antwerp.  This year, it was Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz. They were welcomed by church leaders and local officials. People were happy to see them.
