As VRT News reported, a serious crash occurred at 7:30 PM last night, July 20, 2025, on the Steenweg naar As in Maasmechelen. 2 cars hit each other head-on. It is not clear yet how the crash happened. One car ended up in a ditch next to the road.
The police, ambulance, and fire department arrived very quickly. The car that was in the ditch had three people inside. This car was damaged. The doors would not open. The firefighters had to cut the back of the car open to access the people.

The fire department worked to get the people out of the car. All 3 people were taken out of the car. They got help at the scene and were sent to the hospital. Police closed the road for some time. They are now checking how the crash happened. The investigation is still going on.
